TENNIS fans will get the chance to get up close to the Davis Cup when it comes to Southend next month.

The famous trophy is touring the country following Great Britain's victory over Belgium in the final and will be at Garon Park Tennis Academy on Sunday, July 24.

It was the first time GB had won the Davis Cup in 79 years and to mark the occasion the Lawn Tennis Association is taking the trophy round the country to inspire people to take up the sport.

“The Davis Cup win is one many will remember for the rest of their lives and is a key vehicle that can drive interest in our sport," said LTA chief executive Michael Downey.

"The LTA is proud to be able to share this incredible achievement with the British people and those who loyally supported and backed the team."

The Davis Cup will be at the academy, which is based at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre, in Eastern Avenue, between 10am and 1pm.

The trophy will be visiting 50 locations on the tour this summer following GB's win over Belgium last year.
