Sam Bayda won the Westcliff Hard men’s singles crown for the first time and Andrea Maughan retained her ladies singles title.

Bayda beat Darien Lamb 6-2 6-2 and Maughan defeated Faye Watts 6-1 6-1 at The Ridgeway club.

The men’s doubles was a closely fought affair, with Richard Barham and John Handelaar beating Miles Milner and Arron Chandler 5-7 6-2 6-3.

The mixed doubles was also a very entertaining match with lots of exciting rallies before Andrea Maughan and Miles Milner beating Faye Watts and Sam Chesher 7-6 6-4.

Flavio Gaudini won the men’s over-45 singles by beating Derek May 6-4 6-2 following a final lasting nearly two hours.

Andrea Maughan and Virunee Viravong had a walkover in the ladies’ doubles final.

This year the parent and child event was held on finals day and four families played semi-finals, final and a third-fourth place playoff.

The event was very successful and all matches were close and played in a very good spirit.

The final was won by Owen and James Stanford who beat James and Catherine McCarthy 6-3 6-4.

The 3rd/4th play-off was also a great match, with Simon and James Kidgell beating Louis and John Rowe 7-5 2-6 10-8.

The club finals day and the Stellison’s Junior Open are two of the highlights at the Westcliff Hard Court Tennis Club.

Finals day at Westcliff Hard Tennis Club marked the end of the busy summer season.

The tennis in all categories was of a high standard and, with afternoon tea available and a good turnout of spectators, it proved to be a very successful event for the club.
