SOUTHEND Council paid more than £4million into a pension pot for teachers last year.
The figure was revealed in the council’s annual accounts.
For 2013/14, the authority paid out £4.6million towards teacher’s pensions. In 2012/13, the council paid out £4.7million in teacher’s pensions.
Southend Council is a unitary authority, which means it is responsible for schools in the borough.
