Essex Country Show this weekend may feature Monster Trucks and Canadian Newfoundland dogs, but it will still celebrate the best of the county.

The event, at Barleylands, in Billericay, will showcase local talent and produce, and you don’t get much more local than the Billericay Brewing Company.

The start-up company has only been running for about 18-months, after founder Trevor Jeffery quit teaching to take his passion for home-brewing to the next level.

Their six craft beers will be for sale in the Food Hall at the Country show as Trevor said he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have a stall.

He said: “The first place we started selling was at the Barleylands Farmers’ Market.

“Over the summer we’ve done a few big events and they’ve gone really well and as it’s so close to us we couldn’t not be there.

“Of course we hope the sun shines, these types of events rely on good weather, but it always get a good attendance anyway, so it should be a good way to get our name out to new people.”

Trevor brews all the beer himself using a mixture of British and American hops and all natural ingredients to produce his six regular real ales and seasonal specials, such as this summer’s festival brew.

Business has been going so well that, despite only opening his shop in Chapel Street this January, he already has plans to expand and create a mini tap bar next door.

The 50-year-old added: “We’re the only brewery in the Food Hall at the Show, so hopefully we’ll go down well with all the other stalls.”
