A HOUSE has been left heavily smoke logged after its roof caught fire.

Two fire crews were called to St Vincents Road, Westcliff, at about 10.30am after flames were seen coming from the house and, by 10.56am, about 25 per cent of the roof was alight.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish the blaze in the roof space of the semi-detached property.

By 11.11am, the incident commander reported the fire was out but crews remained at the scene, cutting away part of the roof to expose any remaining hot spots, reporting they had made steady progress by 11.31am.

The crews left a few minutes later and a fire investigation will now be carried out to establish the cause of the fire.

There were no reported casualties.
