PUPILS had a great time celebrating the 60th anniversary of their school by playing games and enjoying a birthday cake.

Holt Farm Junior School, in Ashingdon Road, Rochford, celebrated the milestone recently with a day of fun activities.

The children got to enjoy a reduced timetable, and instead spent time on the school field playing traditional games such as crab football and skipping with ropes.

There was also a special 60th birthday cake to enjoy.

The children also practised a flashmob-style dance routine that the whole school – from Year Three to Six – took part in.

They danced to a mix of modern and older music put together by their dance teacher.

The children rehearsed the routine in their PE classes and in total about 280 children took part in the dance.

SENCO teacher Jon Keeler said: “It was absolutely brilliant.

“The kids all had a wonderful time. We had so much going on.

“We had 60s music playing in the school hall and traditional games.

“One of the best bits was that the children didn’t realise the staff were going to do the flash mob as well.”

As well as the activities, staff members and parents who had attended the school themselves brought in photos of the classes through the ages for everyone to look at and compare.
