PASSION Play - written by Peter Nichols - first came to the stage in 1981, a production about adultery and betrayal.
This story of desire, intimacy and deception, won the Evening Standard Award for Best Play when it was premiered at London's Aldwych Theatre.
Now it is coming to the Palace Theatre from Wednesday June 15 until Saturday June 18, including a matinee performance, put on by the Full Circle theatre company.
The story is set around James and Eleanor, who have been comfortably married for 25 years. Their world is turned upside down when James agrees to a secret rendezvous with their recently widowed friend Kate. As the lies mount up, the marriage is stripped bare, revealing the illicit desires and hidden passions that lie beneath the everyday façade.
The play contains adult themes and nudity and takes place in the Dixon Studio at the theatre in London Road.
Tickets are £13 or £11.50 for concessions, from southendtheatres.org.uk or the box office on 01702 351135.
