SAM Buttery – a finalist from the original series of BBC1 TV’s the Voice – will be joining the cast of An Evening of Burlesque at Basildon’s Towngate Theatre tomorrow night as its special guest.

The show comes direct from London’s West End and unveils a fresh cast of burlesque stars.

Dubbed “Samarotti” by his family because he sang operatic tunes as a four-year-old, Sam’s vocals and keen sense of humour are a perfect fit for the show, according to producer Michael Taylor.

“It’s the must-see show of the year,”

says Michael, adding that the content is suitable only for over-18s.

For Sam, it’s been a busy time. After appearing in the Voice, he went on to star in the 2012/13 production of the musical Taboo. He played the part of performance artist, fashion designer and club promoter Leigh Bowery, a role originally performed by writer and producer of Taboo, Boy George.

The part required Sam to shave his head and appear with a full head of make-up. Prior to joining An Evening of Burlesque, Sam also appeared in feature film Child 44 with Gary Oldman and TomHardy.

Talking about An Evening of Burlesque, Michael says: “For 2013 an all-new cast has been assembled, comprising of the cream of British burlesque performers.

“It is an all-new, riotous romp into the bizarre world of burlesque and cutting-edge variety. Royal Academytrained burlesque bombshells will be slipping into exotic character as smoothly as they slip out of the most exotic couture costumes ever to grace the stage”.

Themes featured include Arabian Nights, fan dancing fantasies and foxy Forties WAF sirens. The show promises to be “all tease, no sleaze”.

Michael adds: “It’s the slickest, wickedly wittiest, most delightfully choreographed cabaret spectacular of the year. Prepare for the ultimate in glamorous nights out – dress up and come to the cabaret.”

An Evening of Burlesque Towngate Theatre, St Martin’s Square, Basildon. Tomorrow, 7.30pm, £21.50.
