A BIKER died instantly after colliding with a lorry on the A127.
 

Witnesses claim the motorcyclist - a 43-year-old man from Southend - may have skidded on black ice.


The crash, which happened at 6.40am today  closed the London-bound carriageway for more than six hours while police and emergency crews dealt with the scene.
 

The closure of the busy dual carriageway caused traffic chaos in and around Basildon as motorists desperately tried to find alternative routes.

As others have said, it's westbound that's closed. It's pretty much the same place that a motorcyclist came to grief several years ago. I came past eastbound 10 minutes after it had happened and traffic was already backing up to the A132.

I am saddened by the news yet incensed by the comment made by GentleGiant. Bikers in general at that time in the morning are going to work just like everyone else. If car drivers used the lanes as they should rather than hog the outside lane then bikers wouldn't feel the need to go down the inside. I ride the A127 every day, there are a small number of car drivers who maintain good lane discipline, Van drivers are much better and Lorrys are great. I always acknowledge any vehicle moving to let me pass. come on you poor car drivers, letting a bike through takes a second or 2, don't be obstructive, It may just cost us our life!!!

My earlier post was made prior to the news that someone had died - my post along with others were removed, quite rightly.

However that does not change my view that many bikers are a danger to themselves and others in the way they ride.

Of course this person, who's family are now affected by this tragedy, may have been a decent biker and therefore RIP.

My thoughts go out to the Motor Cycles family this was not an multi car accident as I was right behind the Motor bike at the time it looked like he slipped on ice or something before hitting the lorry I am still in a little shock but once again my upmost thoughts are with his family xxxxxxx

If you're of the opinion bikers are the worst of the bunch, though, think again. You've only seen it from a car driver perspective. Spend a few days on a bike or ask a dual licence holder for his or her opinion, and then you'll understand. And quite why you think it appropriate to voice an anti-bike opinion in a thread where a biker died is beyond me.

i came past there at 6.50, and sad to say saw the poor soul in the road covered up, how tragic, my sincere sympathies go out to his family, and this is not the place for the bike car argument, leave that for another time when nobody loses their life, theres no good time to lose a loved one, but 3 weeks till xmas has got to be the hardest of all, R.I.P. to the victim

it is not always the bikers fault - 90% of the time it is the CAR DRIVERS fault as they dont look out for motorcyclists - My thoughts go out to all the families involved

Never judge someone without the full facts, the moment I see the accident the bike was only going about 50 mph And in a straight line he was driving very safely I hope I never have to witness something like this ever again in my life again, this was just a guy trying to earn a living trying to get to work, think before you judge someone this was just a freak accident...

I must admit that knowing how ultra sensitive the Echo Staff are to certain stories that have a habit of going pear shaped. To the point of not allowing posts on "certain" stories at all, that they allow comments on any story relating to motorcycle accidents.

As an aside, I think the Echo needs to be careful when it comes to updating stories and not reviewing the comments. Well intended comments such as Chunkus10's first post can in hindsight often be misconstrued.

I just want to say, this is my husband Chris who was taken from us so suddenly today, he was an amazing husband, a wonderful Dad and my best friend. As mentioned before he was just trying to get to work to earn a living to support his family. He loved riding that bike and I know how careful he was as i have been out riding with him so many times on the back. I can't begin to tell you how this has affected us today. I can't believe how cruel this world is sometimes. You sleep well sweets xxx

I believe guys like him are truly ,the unspoken Hero`s ( just as much as our boys and girls serving in the forces!) in our society.
Getting up at an unearthly hour to go to work, to support his family in all weathers and conditions.

As mentioned before he was just trying to get to work to earn a living to support his family. He loved riding that bike and I know how careful he was as i have been out riding with him so many times on the back. I can't begin to tell you how this has affected us today.
