MORE than 400 people put their best foot forward to raise cash for two hospices.

The annual Havens to Havens walk took place amid the sunshine on Sunday to give walkers that extra boost.

The walk begun at Little Havens children’s hospice in Daws Heath Road, Thundersley, where those taking part had the chance to complete a five or ten mile route while taking in the sights of the beautiful woodlands in Thundersley and past Hadleigh Castle.

They then strolled along the coastline in Leigh to Fair Havens hospice - which cares for terminally ill adults - in Chalkwell Avenue, Westcliff where they were able to enjoy a cream tea.

Those walking in memory of a loved one cared for by Fair Havens, could also place a tribute on a wall of memories.

Ramblers on the 10-mile walk then trekked back through Belfairs to Little Havens, where those who had lost children at that hospice could also place a tribute on another separate wall of memories, while those on the shorter route took a copash trip back.

As a poignant reminder of those who have passed away at both hospices, several walkers had the faces of their loved ones printed on t-shirts.

Cash raised from the walk is expected to hit the £15,000 mark.

Laura Hyde, Havens Hospices events fundraiser, said: "We've had beautiful blue skies and sunshine all day, it's been perfect weather for a walk with friends and family.

“I'd like to say a huge thank you to every person who has walked with us today and to all those who have been remembering a loved one.

“We must raise £100,000 a week to be there for ever child, adult and family who needs us, so we simply couldn't do it without people in the community like you."
