SOUTHEND United has helped elderly people keep fit and healthy by holding seated fitness sessions at care homes across the borough.
Southend United Community and Educational Trust is running fitness sessions at Kathryn Court in Shoebury, Mountdale Nursing Home in Leigh and Nazareth House and Boscombe Lodge in Southend.
Dale Spiby, chief executive of the trust, said: “I am really pleased with the way this project has developed.
“The participants have really embraced the sessions and created bonds with the staff over the weeks. This is something we are desperately looking to sustain.”
The 14-week programme enables older people to gain a better understanding of the importance of mobility, stretching and exercise in keeping them healthy.
It has helped to improve the health of residents, some of whom suffer with dementia, chronic heart disease and diabetes.
