SHE may have suffered a devastating defeat on the athletics track in Moscow, but that proved academic at home as talented runner Jessica Judd scored top marks in her A-Levels.

The Canvey-based 800-metre runner missed out on a semi-final spot at the World Championships in Moscow, but then hours later got the A-Level grades she needed to take her place at university.

Jessica, 18, picked up a A* in PE, an A in biology and a B in chemistry from the King John School in Shipwrights Drive, Thundersley, and will go on to study biochemistry at Bath University.

She said: “Wow. I am really delighted and I cannot thank the school enough. This is absolutely fantastic. I’m so glad I chose to go to King John.”

Her A-Level success came just a few hours after a major disappointment on the track when, appearing at her first World Championships, she crossed the line fifth in her heat with a time of 2 minutes 4.08 seconds, and missed out on a semi-final spot.

But that heartbreak disappeared hours later when she got her A-Level results.
