GARY Bowyer is unlikely to make any more signings before the loan window slams shut today – as the Blackburn Rovers boss believes he now has the ‘firepower’ to break down the meanest Championship defences.

Rovers have scored just four goals in six games as injuries and suspensions up front have hit hard.

But their manager is confident they will return to scoring ways now he finally has his full complement of striking talent available to him.

For the first time this season Bowyer could have all six of his attackers to pick from for Saturday’s big War of the Roses clash with Leeds at Ewood Park.

And he has hinted that new boy Rudy Gestede, who has joined on an initial loan from Cardiff City, could start alongside top scorer Jordan Rhodes.

Bowyer said: “Rudy comes to us on the back of helping Cardiff to the Premiership so he has the type of mentality that we’re looking for.

“He’s also a good person to have around the dressing room and he’s 6ft 4in too – and it’s no secret that we’ve been looking for a target man.

“But I would say he’s more than just a target man. He’s got good movement and he’s got the ability to run the channels as well.

“We’re looking forward to him linking up with Jordan Rhodes and fighting for a place in the team because we’ve got some real firepower up there now.

“DJ Campbell, David Dunn and Ruben Rochina are back and we’ve got Leon Best as well so the competition is really hot.

“We’ve suffered with injuries up front but now we’ve got them all available for the first time this season.”

Rochina took another step toward full match sharpness by playing in a friendly with Blackpool on Monday.

Campbell and Best were both on target in the behind-closed-doors encounter at Brockhall.

Campbell has missed the last three games through suspension while Best was left out of Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Reading while the club investigated comments he made to a supporter on social networking site Instagram.

It is unclear if Best will return to the first-team party for the visit of Leeds this weekend.

But, unlike against Reading, Rhodes will definitely be joined in the Rovers squad by two other out-and-out forwards in Campbell and Gestede.

Bowyer said: “Jordan has got double figures already and he will benefit from others coming back into the squad.

“But I think it’s important we get other people contributing and that we don’t just rely on Jordan.”

The emergency loan window closes at 5pm this afternoon.

Gestede is expected to be Rovers’ sole addition.

But there could yet be outgoings.

Bowyer said: “I don’t think you can predict what could happen.

“Let’s just get to 5pm and see where the squad stands then.”
