Council will co-operate with police probe into mayor’s former consort

Echo: Mo Larkin and John Handley Mo Larkin and John Handley

BASILDON Council leader Tony Ball has said the authority will co-operate with a fraud squad probe into the past of Mayor Mo Larkin’s former consort.

Mr Ball spoke after Essex Police passed the case to the fraud department of the serious crime directorate under Chief Supt Luke Collison.

The force was asked by Basildon Labour Group to investigate if any offences of misconduct in public were committed by John Handley, or the mayor.

Councillors are now being interviewed by detectives.

A police spokesman said: “We are investigating allegations reported to us to ascertain if any criminal offences have been committed.”

Mr Ball said: “I am extremely disappointed at these allegations, but confirm that, if approached by police, the council will cooperate fully.

“It is my view, the mayor has only ever sought to serve the community of Basildon and to promote our borough.”

Mrs Larkin declined to comment, but, in an e-mail sent to a resident who had called for her resignation, she said her only crime was “falling in love”.

"Criminal offences", what a joke? There is no evidence of any. This is yet another hate campaign waged by the vicious trolls of the Labour left who are just itching to supplant the mayor with one of their own.

Frankly, I think ALL political parties are poison - especially now they have ALL been infiltrated by Leftie trolls.

No public money has been used or abused, nobody is out of pocket, except the mayor and her ex partner. In fact this whole thing is a joke and a waste of time.

Yet again, the Twitter trolls of the Labour group are behind spurious and outrageous suggestions. And they keep on digging and raking up total rubbish to try and justify their claims. When all the time all they want is to grab back power.

The public is not stupid. Except a few idiots who frequent this website.

As a council tax payer all I am interested in is if anybody is abusing my money and let's face it, you don't have to go far to see the abuse of expenses - even from the sanctimonious leftwing trolls who themselves aren't above helping themselves to public money and turning up for free lunches.

I know a hate campaign when I see one, having been on the receiving end myself of the same idiots who are behind this one. Hence the reason I will vociferously defend the mayor on this one. I know what it is like to have these hypocrites ripping your private life to shreds, interfering with your social networking accounts, sending lies to your employer and making up all sorts of sordid sh1t about you.

I would defend anybody, of any persuasion, political or otherwise, who has had to endure this kind of life-destroying hatefest.

Then they resort to the insults and name calling - and these are the people who moan and groan about "haters" and label others with "isms", all of which they are guilty of themselves.

They need to look in the mirror before gobbing off.

Actually, perhaps these same haters would like to look at how much Cllr Larkin has actually spent of her own money on Basildon and how much the taxpayer has been saved in chauffeur expenses by John Handley who never charged the taxpayer for escorting the mayor to events. And paid for his -and Mrs Larkin's - tickets to charity events and other occasions. I personally have witnessed this, being at public and political events myself.

And who also helped out a lot of people, some of them within Basildon Council itself. I don't notice any of you standing in defence of either of these people who helped you.

Where is the solidarity? You are all politicians elected to improve and maintain the quality of life for the people of Essex and of Basildon and its surrounding area, not indulge in a bitchfest. You should be working together, regardless of politics and political outlook. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

And the vultures who stand to gain if Cllr Larkin were to give up public office are the most sickening of all.

Funny how people disappear into the woodwork and allow one person to take all the sh1t isn't it. Then you get to work on their relatives, friends and associates. You know who you are.

And I will be asking some serious questions of the council this week about your vicious Twitter troll campaigns.

Hopefully in the New Year, you will all be exposed - and not just by myself. Other are sick and tired of you too. Already people are questioning these and other allegations and I think 2014 will be the year of exposing the REAL takers and users in public office.

I call upon the Echo to take the lid off the whole lot in the New Year...I mean the expenses of all those who are funded by the public purse and that includes the chauffeur driven limo of the chairman of Essex county council, the free dinners, soirees at public expense and all sorts of other hidden expenses that emanate from County Hall and Bas Towers.

Instead of focusing on the private life of just ONE politician, which is of no interest whatsoever to the council tax paying public, let's have a look inside the REAL goings on in public office and DEFINITELY including the ongoing hate campaigns, nasty videos, horrible comments, silent phone calls, false accusations and life-destroying rumour mongering perpetrated by a handful of small minded, petulant, envious and deluded people. And the public money wasted on "investigating" it.

It's time now to stop all the backstabbing once and for all; our local newspaper and politicians have a duty to the people of Basildon - and Essex - to serve them properly and truthfully, without indulging in - or publicising - hate campaigns, or listening to and taking notice of trolls.

The public needs to be more discerning and do its own investigations an make yourselves aware of what your politicians are doing on a day to day basis. Anyone can look at how their council tax is being spent. There is the Freedom of Information Act and all sorts of LEGITIMATE ways of finding out FACTS, rather than reading the rubbishing of people's characters - and rumours.

The responsibility of voters does not begin and end at the ballot box. We need to make sure our politicians are serving us.

We also need to do the same with our local newspaper. And nobody is being served by muck raking and hate campaigns. Not least the public.

If there were any truth at all in any kind of "criminal activity", it would have been self evident by now.

However , the Twitter trolling harassment, libellous comments, lies, conjecture, fantasy and totally unfounded allegations goes on unabated.

In the true spirit of Christmas I ask for an end to this - and for some understanding of what it entails to put yourself up for public office.

Having done this myself and served as a councillor - I can say in all honesty that there ARE people in politics, both nationally and locally who DO want to give their all.

Let's not shout them down and destroy their characters whilst conveniently ignoring those who DO bring the office of councillor or MP into disrepute.

And usual haters - don't bother to respond. You KNOW I do not return to read your libellous, spurious, hateful rubbish. However, there are others who are happy to gather such information, should it be needed....

However such hateful comments only serve to prove my point and demonstrate to the decent people here that every word I say above , I thoroughly stand by and believe in - unlike you and your muck-raking.

Kim Gandy, the police are investigating. There must be some kind of criminal offence they are looking in to. Note the word 'investigating' this means checking all available evidence to see if there is anything to support a charge **or not**.
They will find all the facts, which may well include your own version.
But don't forget, there will always be two sides to a story like this and any police investigation.
So feel free to stand by your version of what you believe to be the truth in the matter and let the police investigate, or as you like to call it 'rake mud'

However such hateful comments only serve to prove my point and demonstrate to the decent people here that every word I say above , I thoroughly stand by and believe in - unlike you and your muck-raking.[/p][/quote]This MUST BE the longest post I have ever seen on the Echo website. . . rayleigh123
