Norcross: I've got Grand at last

Echo: Norcross: I've got Grand at last Norcross: I've got Grand at last

FORMER Towie star Mick Norcross claims he has finally signed the lease to the Grand Hotel, in Leigh.

Mr Norcross, who owns the Sugar Hut nightclub in Brentwood, tweeted yesterday he had finalised the deal, two years after negotiations began with the Spirit Pub Group.

Mr Norcross’s grand plans have hit several delays and the announcement has been greeted as an early Christmas present for Leigh.

Mr Norcross tweeted: “It’s official – after two years of hard work I’ve finally exchanged contracts on the Grand Hotel in Leigh.”

Later, he added: “Big thanks to my team for securing our next project, the Grand Hotel.”

Leigh Town Council chairman Caroline Parker was thrilled with the news.

She said: “What a fabulous Christmas present for all of Leigh.

“I passed there the other day and it’s looking totally neglected and unloved. I thought it was getting worse, so this is wonderful news.

“I’m so glad Mr Norcross hung on in there and I pass my congratulations and thanks on to him.

“I’m sure when it reopens it will be quite a party.”

It is expected work will begin in the new year and take up to 18 months. The most recent work to take place on site was the removal of Japanese knotweed in October and in November builders were on site at the hotel, in the Broadway, to carry out roof repairs and other maintenance works.

The landmark building will reopen as the Grand Boutique hotel complete with spa, restaurant, piano bar, 20 bedrooms and a bridal suite.

The development, given planning permission in August 2012, is expected to cost around £4.5million.

i live in Leigh....and i don't consider that a Christmas present....so that statement is wild and untrue.
Just wait till it gets complaints, just like the latest in Brentwood, see if the Town Council are so enthusiastic then.

Couldn't be worse than the Spirit Pub Group I suppose.....but lets wait and see what the development brings...hopefully not more smashed up bus shelters and damaged cars that we seem to have at present.
Leigh residents patience is running out with local councillors and licence applications so tread carefully.
Remember Mr Norcross it is a hotel not a late night boozer for coked out C-list celebs.

..or as in the case of the TOWIE-associated Bar Blanco, a place for would be TOWIE chavs.

Saw it turning out again last night.. the usual bunch of wannabees done up to the nines but without an ounce of class or dignity; staggering around in the middle of the road, bawling and shouting.

Funny, I went to a pub last night and the night before, didn't drink one drop of alcohol - and had a brilliant time - especially listening to a live Hendrix band last night.

You don't get class like that in a TOWIE bar.

I live in Leigh and am certainly not pleased. You can bet it'll become a late night naff club because "a boutique hotel wouldn't make money". Just like every other developer in the area who cons our naive local council .

Naive local council? The local people are naive. The council don't care if it will be a bar. They only care about the extra income the bar would bring.

that's about right..... the so called majority who are pleased with what's happening might not be quite so enthusiastic after a few dozen 'romford boys' kick off with punters in the mariners......... it'll be a kind of battle of the 'haves' v the 'have nots'..... at least rayleigh folk can breath a sigh of relief !

Nor do I consider it a Christmas present. I am all for the Grand being up and running but like others living near I am concerned as to what Mr Norcross's real intentions are. Its all very well for Caroline Parker to express her Joy but there again she only 'passes by' she doesn't live in close proximity.
So saying I hope it works out well for all....Mr Norcross and for Leigh and our Leigh Town Council will still be congratulating Mr Norcross this time next year and well into the future for all our sakes.
Happy Christmas Everyone .....mean fully meant.
