A RECYCLING company has been fined £100,000 for serious safety failings after a Canvey man was crushed to death by a bale of waste weighing over a tonne.
Kenneth Swaby, 43, was struck by the falling bale as he walked past a stack of them reaching some five metres high at R&S Recycling Ltd in Beoley on February 11 2011.
Three of the bales toppled over and one landed directly on top of him, killing him instantly.
Today the company was fined £100,000 and ordered to pay costs of £57,927 after pleading guilty to a single breach of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 act at Worcester Crown Court.
