CASTLE Point MP Rebecca Harris has praised a Benfleet opticians for revolutionary technology to ensure residents’ eyes are kept in tip-top health.
Mrs Harris visited independent optician and Sight Care member KJ Green Opticians in London Road to see its new 3D Optical Coherence Tomography system in action.
The opticians is a pioneer of retinal photography and the new piece of kit allows a more in-depth and advanced eye care for people of all ages.
The Tory MP has a specialist interest in making people aware of the need to get their eyes tested as part of a wider campaign to get drivers who are knowingly medically unfit off the road.
She took up the campaign after being contacted by her constituent the Rev Brenda Gutberlet whose niece Natalie Wade was killed while on the way to buy her wedding dress by a driver who had been told by medical professionals his eyesight was far too poor to continue driving.
Mrs Harris said: “It was wonderful to visit a practice which has been providing such an important service in Castle Point for the past five decades.
“I was shown the latest technology available, which will ensure the best eye tests are provided to patients.
“Following the tragic case of my constituent’s niece, I have a personal interest in eye health, especially for children and drivers, and I would encourage everyone to book regular eye tests because the importance of knowing about any problems with our eye sight cannot be underestimated.”
