A GAS leak closed a road in Basildon.
Firefighters were at Christopher Martin Road after a gas main, measuring eight inches, ruptured at around 2.15pm.
Essex Police set up a hazard zone and National Grid engineers carried out emergency repairs.
The road was reopened at around 3.20pm after the rupture was repaired.
