Choas as main roads closed in Basildon because of overturned car

First published in News

Two of Basildon's busiest roads have been closed tonight after a car flipped onto its roof.

The vehicle flipped over at about 5pm on the Broadmayne and Upper Mayne roundabout, causing both roads to be closed for almost three hours.

Drivers reported big tailbacks as Uppermayne was shut off from Cranes Farm Road.

The driver was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, which happened close to Gloucester Park.

Traffic was diverted through Laindon while the incident was dealt with.

Yes, hope the driver will be OK, but it takes more than a lapse in concentration to do that. There's more to it than that . . . speeding??????

Hope the driver is not too badly injured.

Might have had to take drastic evasive action because someone using their mobile while driving their Merc pulled out in front of them without looking..

Sorry but flipping a car over on your own is quite some undertaking, unless you are going too fast. Or driving erratically.

Every day I see some real loonytunes on the road, playing Russian roulette with other people's lives and no doubt the Echo website's own self glorifying lunatic above is one of them.

The report clearly states no other vehicle was involved, so without an enormous gust of wind, I cannot see how a car can flip itself over, without being driven erratically.

However, if the driver became ill whilst at the wheel, I could sympathise.
I suppose that's a possibility.
