A RESIDENTS association is expanding after successfully fighting an application for a pub in a Hadleigh park.

The Solby Estate Residents Association has been fighting for the people of Ashdown Crescent, Sherwood Crescent and Hainault Close for the past decade, but now the group will extend its help to the rest of Hadleigh, as the Hadleigh Residents Association.

Chairman Alf Papworth, 80, recently led a successful campaign against the pub in the park plan at John H Burrows after residents objected to Greene King’s proposals to build on the site of the former community hall.

Mr Papworth said he now wants to help the whole town.

He said: “The association is growing all the time and we’ve had a number of successes, thanks to people power.

“We can achieve a lot, I’m sure of that.”

If you are interested in joining the association, e-mail Mr Papworth at alfredpapworth@hotmail.co.uk

What an absolutely selfish man this Papworth and his bunch if NIMBYS are. He is 80, as are a number of the other NIMBYS, all in the twilight of their lives. What about the youngsters of today, they need consideration, but obviously not from this selfish group of elderly people.
The offer was a restaurant and updated sports facilities. Who I may ask of this bunch of old codgers, who is going to stump up the cash to demolish and rebuild the decaying structure that purports to be a community hall? I doubt very much whether Castle Point Council, will, so is Papworth and his cronies now going to come up with the cash to build new facilities for the youngsters of Hadleigh. God help us if he is let loose with a Residents Association to further damage what the youngsters of Hadleigh can look forward to in the future, if Papworth and his cronies have their was, Nothing is the answer from this backward looking bunch..
