A POPULAR Thundersley church celebrates its 50th anniversary this weekend.
St George’s Church, in Rushbottom Lane, has been welcoming worshippers since 1964 and is marking this achievement with a family fun day tomorrow.
The church was rebuilt 50 years ago, having been founded in 1926 as the “daughter” church to St Peter’s, Thundersley.
Vicar the Rev Anthony Rose said: “The church has seen quite a lot of growth over the years and seen many changes.
“We have many people involved in the church and they want to celebrate, too.
“It’s something we feel we would like to share with the community.”
The fun day is being held at Tarpots Recreation Ground, Benfleet, between 12.30pm and 6.30pm today.
Attractions at the event will include music from local bands and a dog show.
