A MAN was killed when his car overturned on the A127 during last night’s rush hour.

Traffic was thrown into chaos after a the accident near the Fairglen interchange turn-off to Rawreth.

Traffic on the Southend-bound carriageway was queued back to the Fortune of War, at Laindon.

Drivers were being diverted off the A127 near the Dick Turpin pub.

Reports on Twitter said the Essex Air Ambulance was at the scene.

Fire crews attended, but the man, said to be from south Essex, was declared dead at the scene.

Police were contacting the victim’s next of kin.

Essex Police asked for any witness to the accident to call them on 101, quoting incident number 1018.

One motorist from Leigh, who was stuck on the traffic queue for more than two hours, said when she was diverted off the A127 at the Dick Turpin she could see cars at a standstill ahead, with people standing in the road.

She said Essex Ambulance Service also attended the scene. Police said inquiries into the cause of the accident were ongoing.
