A BIKER was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a crash in Rayleigh.

The Essex and Herts Air Ambulance was called to the accident in Rayleigh shortly after 4.30pm on Thursday, August 7.

Down Hall Road was blocked near the junction of Hullbridge Road following the crash between a motorbike and car.

Traffic was backed up along Hambro Hill well into the evening rush hour as emergency services dealt with the incident.

An ambulance spokeswoman said: “The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, was airlifted to Royal London Hospital with serious injuries.”

Downhall road is not closed in both directions. I walked past the aftermath. It's closed from the Downhall Road/ Hambro Hill junction (you can't turn right from DHR onto HH) up to Fairland Close.

Downhall Road is not closed in both directions Echo! Why did you delete my comment earlier saying this?? I walked past it. You can't turn right from Downhall Road onto Hambro Hill in case any needs to know. This was at around 5.20pm so may be open now.

Yet another motorbike accident. Its true that there are bad car drivers and bad riders BUT I have to say, on balance, that the majority of riders simply do not obey the laws of the roads. Most car drivers do look around them but they do not expect a rider to undertaking or speeding in the most inappropriate places. We can argue this one 'till the cows come home but the result is always the same, Car Driver 1 Rider 0.....

And there are more than enough drivers that never obey the laws of the road , how stupid to keep a count drivers 1 riders 0 , it's not about that it's about everyone keeping safe and being on the look out for other motorist 😡

Hope the biker makes a full recovery.
This Ive seen bikers wearing Tshirts and shorts, never looking before overtaking, speeding, underpassing, tailgating, and driving as though they were in scene from Easy Rider.
No surprises to read of so many accidents, with the usual defences of it's never the bikers fault.

For one I always wear protective clothing however hot, second I obey the laws of the road when riding my motorcycle & thirdly I have a go pro camera mounted to my handle bars. would you like to view the footage of car drivers pulling out on me when I am under the speed limit. maybe you should try riding a motorcycle before leaving stupid comments, yes there are some ridiculously stupid motorcycle riders out there, but not all of us are, just like there are good & bad car drivers.

Perhaps peoples comments would be a little calmer if most people saw the average biker, as a responsible road user, as opposed to some idiotic show off, who drives exactly as described by a number of posters here.
Your usual defence of such riders is meaningless, as long as we continue to see and read of horrendously injured bikers, sustaining injuries that only speed and poor driving are contributing factors.

To be frank it would be drivers 10 bikers 0, as bikers vulnerability, goes without saying, regardless of who's to blame. All well and good having a handle bar cam, your the perhaps the 1%, of law abiding bikers, when you want to be.

Obviously speeding. No doubt about it.
You know this for a fact that the guy on the bike was speeding ?

Why are so many people who post comments on this site so anti biker ?
Everytime the Echo prints a story about a bike being injured or killed, people who generally know nothing about motorcycle's always blame the rider.
Its always the bikers fault ? Nothing to do with the fact that the car driver didn't look over his shoulder before pulling out to overtake, or pulled out of a junction without looking etc .

When a biker is killed, it's always the rider who is blamed ! and the comments that are posted on here disgust me. Have respect for the family and friends of the killed or injured party.

This poor guy mentioned within this story has 'serious injuries' post's should be wishing him a full recovery, not assuming that because he was a biker and the sun was out he was speeding and showing off.

Believe it or not most bikers value life ( a lot of us have a wife and children and jobs) some of us ride machines that cost in more than the average family car.

Some bikers do ride like idiots, as do some car drivers.
