GREEN belt land in south Essex could be spared from thousands of homes being built after a senior planning inspector said it was a matter for local councils to decide.

Keith Holland, an inspector for the department for communities and local government, is shown on video telling Castle Point councillors they would not be forced into releasing green belt to meet housing targets.

His assurance, made in a video leaked to the Echo, is at odds with what Castle Point, Basildon and Rochford councils have told residents while they prepared local development plans for the next 20 years.

CP are liars and have their own agenda. It was this agenda that nearly shut Deanes school so the site could be used as housing. Local Councils have far too much power as the ridiculous parking fines are just another stealth tax to fill their coffers when Government are making cuts to council spending

But isnt this the perception that we all have - councils and council-taxpayers alike - that if housing plans are not drawn up (however unpleasant they might be) Eric Pickles would impose something far nastier? Lets not condemn the councils too hastily - we might all have got the wrong end of the stick. Plus if the Tories don't get back in......
