COMMUTERS faced delays on the c2c line from Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness following repeated signalling problems.

Some services were delayed by one hour, with others running slower and beginning their journey from Barking and Upminster.

c2c managing director Julian Drury said: "I am sorry to say we are facing further delays this evening, on the back of the awful service you experienced last night.

"The same two signals that failed yesterday are again causing problems today.

"This means trains can only pass through the West Ham area at very low speed, which means we can only run fewer trains than normal."

By 9pm the majority of trains were running, with ten minute delays to some services.

Until then all trains that normally terminate at Laindon were cancelled and all other services faced delays of up to 20 minutes.

Mr Drury said: "Network Rail’s engineers have tried to repair the signals today, but their efforts have not yet fixed the problem.

"They will continue to work on the signal overnight and I hope this will not affect your service tomorrow.

"I am very sorry for these delays to your journey home."

c2c tickets were accepted by Greater Anglia and the District and Hammersmith and City lines until further notice.
