A super trendy New York eyewear label is launching its first ever shop in the UK...at an art gallery in Leigh.

The Moscot brand will open a temporary shop at the White Wall Space art gallery, where you’ll be able to buy prescription lenses and consult with on-hand opticians.

It runs from Thursday, October 30, until Saturday December 27.

It has being brought there by Glasseswebb, a company founded by Mo and Tim Webb, who are from Leigh, but now live in East London.

Mo said: “Moscot is about to celebrate its centenary, which for an American company is unheard of.

“We distribute lots of beautiful products and you just can’t get this sort of thing in Essex. The nearest place would be the City.

“We work with the Moscot people and feel really privileged to do this.

“They have never done a pop-up shop in the UK before, so for us to bring this to Leigh is really exciting.”

If you haven’t heard of Moscot, it’s a New York-based luxury eyewear company, and boasts celebrity clientele including Johnny Depp, Sting, Lance Armstrong, Kanye West, Kiefer Sutherland, Renee Zellweger, Denzel Washington and Mary-Kate Olsen.

The company was founded by Hyman Moscot, who arrived from Eastern Europe via Ellis Island in 1899 and began selling ready-made eyeglasses from a pushcart on Orchard Street, on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, finally opening a shop on Rivington Street in 1915.

The exhibition/pop-up shop in the gallery in Broadway West, will include glasses and sunglasses from the Moscot range over the past 100 years.

The shop/gallery will be open on Thursdays, from 11.30am to 7.30pm, and Fridays and Saturdays, from 9.30pm to 5.30pm, with opticians on hand to discuss styling and fitting of the Moscot Originals collection frames.

l A launch night bash will take place on Thursday October 30, from 6pm until 10pm.
