MARRIAGES and christenings will be celebrated to mark 100 years of the Diocese of Chelmsford this weekend.

St Nicholas’ Church, in Long Road, Canvey, is planning events to celebrate marriage and christenings.

The Rev David Tudor said: “This is about reconnecting with and celebrating our local community. People come to the church for christenings, weddings and funerals.

“This is to say we are still linked together. You may not come to church every Sunday, but we are still your church and we are still your community.”

Everyone who has been married is invited to the celebration at the church, on Sunday, at 4pm. It is expected a number of couples who have been married for more than 50 years will be there.

There will be an opportunity for couples to have their rings blessed if they have been replaced since their wedding.

Mr Tudor added: “The response we have had so far from couples is phenomenal.

We sent out invitations to a number of people, but everyone is welcome to turn up on the day.”

The church will celebrate christenings on Sunday, November 23 at 4pm.

There will be a musical activity for children to enjoy in the hall and all families are welcome.
