A CAT was rescued from a kitchen fire in a first floor flat.
Two fire crews from Southend were called to the fire on Milton Close, Southend, at about 5.30pm where they found the entire flat to be completely smoke logged.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus made a search of the property and reported that everyone had been accounted for, as well as rescuing a cat from the property.
An ambulance was called for a man suffering from smoke inhalation and was left in the care of paramedics.
Crews used one hose reel to extinguish the fire. Once it was out, they used a high pressure fan to clear the flat of smoke.
The incident was dealt with by just after 6pm and a fire investigation will be carried out to establish the cause.
