A BOY is jumping for joy after landing his dream job – director of bed-bounce at a new Lego-themed hotel.

Thomas Scammell, eight, from Canvey, beat hundreds of applicants to bag the role.

A team of five children will help corun the hotel, at the Legoland resort, in Windsor, for a day in April as part of its Kids in Charge initiative.

Thomas will visit the 150 bedrooms with the housekeeping team to ensure beds are bouncy enough and there is enough Lego to play with.

Six hundred children applied for scheme, with 30 invited to a special assessment day involving a series of tests. Other job roles include head of fun, official splash tester, mixologist, and chief brick inspector.

Thomas said: “They wanted someone with loads of energy and I love playing, jumping, bouncing and climbing. There were lots of us at the interview and we had to design our perfect bedroom and bounce-test space hoppers. It was brilliant.

“I bounced really high, so hoped I would get it. I know my job won’t be just bed-bouncing, but I can’t wait to start!”

Thomas’ mum, Jo, said: “Thomas has been so excited since we heard.

“He will love the job. He has loads of energy and will know exactlywhat children his age like or dislike. He will be very happy to give his opinion about the running of the hotel and he’ll get a special insight into what it’s like to work in a leisure attraction.”

If the initiative is successful, it could be rolled out again. Hotel director Robert Price, said: “The roles are designed with maximum fun in mind, but the idea is a serious one.

“We want to take children behind the scenes and into the heart of the operation to give us an undiluted kids’ eye view and offer practical insights into how we can make the experience better for our most important guests – children.”
