LONG delays are building on the A12 after a lorry hit the central reservation.

The accident took place on the northbound carriageway between Ingatestone and Mountnessing at about 3.45pm today.

Firefighters were called to the scene, but nobody was trapped in the vehicle and crews had made the tipper lorry safe by 4.20pm.

One lane is currently open on each carriageway.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "The road could be affected for a number of hours whilst the vehicle is removed and the damage repaired.

"Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and are thanked for their patience.

"The driver of the lorry has been taken to hospital for medical check-ups."
