A GRIEVING mother who was targeted by a cruel fraudster has thanked wellwishers for their support they have given her.

Drewe Lock, 20, of Suffolk Avenue, Leigh lost one of her twin babies during pregnancy in April 2012 and the second twin Sapphire was still-born in October that year.

In a bid to create a fitting memorial for Sapphire, wellwishers have donated more than £200 towards a headstone for her baby girl.

Drewe said: “I’m just completely overwhelmed by everyone’s support.

I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated.”

Miss Lock was a victim of wicked teenage Katie Ringer who was jailed for three years after she harassed grieving mothers, swindled people out of thousands of pounds and threatened to petrol bomb someone’s house.

When Sapphire was still-born Ringer stole precious photos of her and sent them back to Drewe with sickening messages.

At the same time Ringer told others Sapphire was her child and needed money for a funeral.

Drewe said: “After everything that’s happened this has restored my faith in people. It’s been quite a hard few years and it’s difficult to take it all in.

“People have been amazing at spreading the word on Facebook and making donations.

“I’ve had people who don’t even know me put their hands in their pockets and donate £20 or £10. It’s amazing.

“There really are no words for it and I can’t thank people enough for their support.

“I think this will help buy a headstone that Sapphire really deserves and it’s going to last forever.”

Drewe will put the money towards a butterfly shaped headstone to stand at the top of Sapphire’s grave in Sutton Road cemetery, Southend.

She said: “I will never forget when we buried Sapphire and a butterfly flew up and rested on my neck before flying off. It stayed with me so I want to get Sapphire a personalised headstone.”
