A MAN is fighting for his life after being stabbed in the street. 

Emergency services were called to Park Road, Westcliff just before 4.30pm this afternoon after reports a man had been stabbed in the chest. 

Paramedics and emergency doctors from the air ambulance battled to save the man, giving him life saving treatement at the scene.

The victim, who is aged in his thirties, was stabilised and taken to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition. 

Officers believe he was stabbed once in the chest at a nearby scrapyard in Park Lane and staggered to Park Road where he was found.

DCI Simon Werrett of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said: "I am looking for two men who are believed to be responsible for the attack on this man.

"I would ask anyone who saw two men acting suspiciously in the area or who has any other information to contact detectives as soon as possible.”

Park Road, Park Crescent, Park Lane, Avenue Terrace and Princes Street we all blocked off by police officers who swarmed the area.

Many residents were unable to get to their homes.

Officers  guarded the door of one of the houses on the street which is understood to be split into flats.

An East of England Ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called at 4.21pm. We sent an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle and the air ambulance attended.

"A man in his thirties suffered an injury to his chest.

“He was treated at the scene and taken to Southend Hospital by land ambulance in a serious condition."
