AN 86 year-old man was taken to hospital with serious internal injuries following a crash in Pitsea.
The pedestrian, from Canvey, was struck by a car, thrown over the bonnet and fell to the ground in the incident near Pitsea Market on Friday, August 7.
The driver stopped and checked how the victim was feeling, but the man got up and walked away.
The driver then left without leaving contact details.
When the man returned to his home later that day he fell seriously ill, and was admitted to Southend Hospital.
Investigating officer, Pc Dave Gorbutt said: "We have not yet been able to talk to the victim because he remains in a serious condition in hospital.
"As a result, we do not have a precise time or location for the incident, other than that it was near Pitsea Market and between 3pm and 4pm on Friday.
"We believe that the car stopped at the scene and the driver is thought to have checked on the welfare of the pedestrian before driving off.
"The pedestrian picked himself up and subsequently got the bus home. Unfortunately he started to feel unwell and a neighbour called for an ambulance.
"We would now like to hear from the driver, any witnesses or anyone who may have information about the car or the driver.”
Anyone who can help should contact Pc Gorbutt at Essex Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101 or email collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk
