FIREARMS officers were involved in a dramatic swoop on Southend seafront earlier today on youths who had been suspected of carrying a firearm.
The drama unfolded outside Genting Casino at 4.30pm as officers responded to reports that a group had been spotted with a firearm at Tilbury Town station and had boarded a Southend-bound train.
Officers liaising with British Transport Police then tracked the train and located the youths when they got off at Westcliff station.
The group was stopped on Western Esplanade and a 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm.
He was taken to Rayleigh Police station for questioning. A BB gun was recovered.
