HEAVY rain caused more flooding in Daws Heath.

The brook in Daws Heath Road, Thundersley overflowed after heavy rain overnight, leaving the area flooded yesterday .

Bosses at Castle Point Council say flooding is a priority and they are working on the issue.

Conservative councillor for the Victoria ward Simon Hart said: “Daws Heath is prone to flooding and we have had problems along that road in the past especially around the brook area near the woodland.

“I have been working on the issue and am pushing, we need more pipes and drains to deal with the heavy water flow.

“I have also been working on encouraging residents in the area to apply for the grant from Essex County Council for flooding.

“The county council has a new scheme out where it will be assessing the properties that a risk of flooding and granting those home owners up to £5,000 for flooding prevention measures.

“The reason the area floods is because of the way the land is, we have a crease in this area and all the water from the surrounding areas flowing into the area.

“Daws Heath Road and the neighbouring areas have been highlighted as a critical drainage area so work is needed in the area to deal with the flooding problems.”

Earlier this month, a £million cash injection was pledged to tackle the threat of flooding in south Essex over the next five years.

County Hall has drawn up a list of 29 places to be given funding, including parts of Thundersley, Rochford and Basildon.
