POLICE are appealing for information after a 21-year-old man was assaulted and robbed in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The victim, who lives in Benfleet, had been at a nightclub in Lucy Road, Southend.

He left the club on his own and met two men who he didn’t know, who walked with him towards the town centre.

When they got to an alleyway which runs between York Road and Heygate Avenue the victim was hit over the head with a glass bottle and punched to the floor where he was further assaulted.

He then had his wallet and mobile phone stolen.

The victim suffered cuts and bruises and managed to make his way to a relation’s address in Southend who took him home. He later had to go to hospital.

The assault happened sometime between 4am and 5am on Saturday November 7.

Anybody with any information is asked to contact officers at Basildon CID on Essex Police 101.
