FIREFIGHTERS have warned people not to leave cooking unattended after a fire broke out in a South Ockenden house.

The fire, in a property in Peartree Close, was started from a pan of oil that had been left on a electric cooker at around 12.26pm this afternoon.

Three fire engines were set to the fire, which was extinguished within ten minutes.

Station officer Mark Elliott said: "The fire had been caused by a pan of oil which had been left unattended on an electric cooker.

“Incidents like these show how important it is to take extra care in the kitchen.

“More fires start in the kitchen than any other room of the house so we urge everyone to take extra care when cooking."

Last week, the Echo reported on a Shoebury house fire that was caused ny an electric charger. Read about it here.
