A LEIGH store has sold a £1million scratch card to one lucky customer who is the latest to benefit from its winning streak.

The Tesco Express Garage, in London Road, Leigh, has sold five big cards in the past few years, including one for £4million.

The store has displayed a poster from the National Lottery stating that a scratch card with a million pound win had been purchased from the store.

Staff would like to find this lucky winner to congratulate them but the new millionaire has turned down any publicity.

Linda Haywood, deputy manager at the store, said: “We don’t know who it is. We got sent the poster from the lottery saying we have a winner in the store and we have put it up.

“We would like to know who they are but we were told by the lottery that they don’t want publicity and they don’t want to be named.”

The store has had at least five big winners over the last few years, Ms Haywood continued: “We did also have one a couple of years ago, a couple won £4million.

“We also had a lady recently who had a really big win, but she didn’t want to discuss it.”

Currently a "million pound scratch card won here" plaque is on display to encourage others to try their luck.

Sam Keeley, cash administrator, at the store said: “People should come here to buy their tickets. It’s a lucky store.”

A National Lottery spokesperson said: “Winners of major National Lottery prizes have three options – to remain anonymous, to make their luck public with a big cheque presentation or to allow retailer publicity, which simply states that a big-win ticket has been sold at a certain store.

“The retailer publicity allows the store to bask in the halo effect of a big win and to be considered a lucky store.”
