A YOUNG man has been left unable to walk following a motorbike crash in Southend.

Paul Perry, 23, a security guard from Westcliff, was left paralysed from the neck down and has respiratory problems after a crash on his motorbike in Southchurch Road.

His family have now started a fundraising campaign to aid his recovery.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Vanessa Perry, Paul’s sister, who described what happened, she said: “For anyone who doesn’t know Paul, he loved to be active and enjoyed being at the gym.

“Paul always helped others out and took great pleasure in this hence choosing to be a security guard and working for the Southend community, but sadly after a tragic motorbike accident is now paralysed from the neck down, and struggling to breathe on his own which he is being aided with.

“He is a very loved and liked young man and only ever wants to help others hence his career choice.

“We love Paul with all our heart and pray each and every day for him to get better.”

Police were called to the crash scene at 5.10pm last Wednesday following reports of a motorbike crashing with two cars in Southchurch Road, near the junction with Christchurch Road.

Police and paramedics found Paul, who was riding the Aprilla bike, badly injured. He was rushed to the Royal London Hospital.

The two cars involved were a black Renault Clio and a red Ford Escort.

This fund raising page has been set up to support his family with any aftercare and any additional treatment and equipment they may need.

The page has already raised more than £400 in just two days.

His sister added that she will be looking into setting up charity events in the future on behalf of her brother.
