Nine people have been arrested in connection with a large fight in Colchester on Boxing Day.

Detectives are investigating reports of a large disturbance in Abbey Gate at 2pm on Saturday December 26, 2015.

It happened shortly before the Colchester United vs Southend United Football match, which was also held that day.

Three teenagers were arrested outside the Playhouse in Crouch Street, Colchester, at around 11am on Saturday, January 30, in connection with the incident.

The boys, aged 16 and 17, and a man aged 18, all from Colchester, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and released on bail pending further enquiries until March 1.

Police also arrested six men yesterday on suspicion of violent disorder.

They were a 30-year-old and a 21-year-old from Pitsea, a 21-year-old and a 28-year-old from Shoeburyness, a 23-year-old from Upminster, and a 24-year-old from Rochford.

They were released on bail until March 10, pending further enquiries.

Both Colchester and Southend football clubs are assisting police with their investigation.
