A WANTED man who was arrested on a family holiday at Butlins has appeared in court.

Jason Woods was arrested at the holiday park, in Skegness, on Saturday, March 26, after he failed to surrender.

Woods, of Southwark Park, Basildon, was later charged with aggravated vehicle taking, as well as for driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

The 25-year-old appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on Monday, March 28, to face the charges.

He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody to appear at Basildon Magistrates Court on Wednesday, April 6, for a plea hearing.

The case was adjourned for the Crown Prosecution Service to review the charges.

Woods was arrested in connection with the theft of Ford Eco Sport car, which was stolen from outside a house in Long Lynderswood, Laindon, overnight on Wednesday, February 17.

Officers tracked down the car six days later on the A127, at the Fortune of War roundabout, when it was in collision with a lorry at about 5.20pm.

At the time, police detained a 28-year-old man from Basildon.

He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and going to a scene equipped, and was released on police bail until Tuesday, April 12 pending further enquiries.

The London-bound side of the A127 was closed at the Fortune of War roundabout for about 30 minutes.
