A TEENAGER who led police on a ten mile chase in a stolen golf buggy committed 16 serious offences in a four-month period.

The 15-year-old, from Canvey, stole the buggy from Castle Point Golf Club, in Somnes Avenue, on April 11.

The buggy was spotted racing past Castle View School, in Foksville Road, Canvey, and down Zelham Drive.

The cart was also spotted in Florence Way, Langdon Hills.

Police gave chase and the youth, who cannot be named because of his age, eventually stopped ten miles away in Corona Road, Langdon Hills.

The cart was returned to the club two hours later.

As a result, the teen was slapped with a criminal behaviour order (CBO) banning him from going out in public without an adult and told to take part in a youth rehabilitation programme by Basildon Magistrates’ Court on May 24.

But the Echo can now reveal the full extent of the tearaway’s offending after he breached the order on June 24 and was hauled back before the court last week.

Besides the golf buggy theft and driving without due care and attention, the teen was sentenced for damaging a fence panel, a car door, stealing cash and a purse- later using a card to withdraw cash- and entering a building with intent to steal.

However, it emerged that the teen’s crime spree had begun months before when he stole £580 in cash on February 3.

He damaged a car on February 23 and on March 11 caused £1,000 worth of damage to a hairdryer in Dynamix salon in Long Road, Canvey.

In a more serious offence he was found in Canvey High Street on March 18 with a knife.

Three days later he stole a Honda quad bike and on April 4 he stole £160 in cash.

He went on to steal an iPhone worth £150 on April 7, just a few days before going on the golf buggy joyride.

Because all the offences- except for the CBO breach- were committed before the buggy incident, Basildon Youth Court sentenced him to another rehabilitation order.

He will be placed under a three month curfew from August 2, from 10pm until 6am, and must take part in a 29 day course.
