YOUNGSTERS got the chance to let off steam at a children’s centre.

The Stay and Play sessions at Blenhiem Children’s Centre, in School Way, Leigh provide a series of fun activities for pre-school youngsters.

Parents get the chance to join in the fun too.

Activities are geared towards reception class subjects to help smooth the transition for children set to start primary school.

Caroline Reynolds, from the centre, said: “The sessions are for babies and children aged up to four.

“There are a wide range of messy play and craft activities with free play for babies.

“There is also outside play although not so much at this time of year.”

Ms Reynolds added: “All the sessions are themed around the school curriculum and language skills .

“We work in partnership with the schools .

“The story each week has a theme which follows through in all the activities and is aimed at helping language development.”

The centre charges a £2 donation per child for the sessions, which take place on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9.30am to 11.30am.

The sessions are great way of meeting other families - so parents are encouraged to attend even if they don’t know anyone else.

No booking is required, but parents are advised to arrive early to secure a place.
