A GROUP of Year 12 students combined their learning with raising a potful of cash for a hospice.

The Bromfords School sixth formers have to study Managing an Event as part of their business course and decided organise events to fundraise for St Luke’s Hospice.

The hospice provides specialist palliative care for people living in the Basildon and Thurrock districts with any life threatening or life limiting disease.

Teacher Deniz Halil said: “Following class discussions the class agreed they wanted to organise events to fundraise for St Luke’s Hospice in order to support them to continue to provide the amazing help to the community.

“Students went about planning and organising a number of events all of which involved selling a range of tasty snacks and drinks.

“The students gave up lunch times and attended evening events within the school to fundraise the money.”

The students involved in the project were Ryan Griffin, Cian Vavasour, Chloe Shaw, Leah Wade, Jordan Clarke, Haroon Raja, Holly Robbins, Molly Langmead,  Aimee Knox, Elli Brown, Reece Cusiter, Ryan Burns, Nathan Bangs, James Taylor, Jake Kennedy, Chloe Shine and Thomas Wright.

The group raised a total of £320 and were delighted to be able to present a cheque to Neil Speight, the hospice’s school liaison fundraiser, when he visited the school in Grange Avenue.

He said: “They were determined to help the local community make a difference so began plotting their events and I think they and their fellow students deserve a round of applause for what they achieved.

“We hear so much bad about young people and as thee students, and many others across the regions consistently prove, there is far more positive to report on than bad.

“Well done to them all and I was please to express the thanks of everyone at St Luke’s.”
