THOUSANDS of drivers flocked to Southend for a cruising event despite there being an injunction against.
Police reported that 2000 car fans attended the planned meet on the sea front last night.
Sgt Ian Hughes, from Essex Police, who was at the scene took to twitter to describe the event.
Superintendent Glen Pavelin said: “Last night’s unauthorised cruise attracted almost 2,000 cars and we put an operation in place to help reassure local people, visitors and drivers along Southend seafront.
“We had a high-visibility patrol on the seafront and worked closely with partners to send out a strong message that we would not tolerate reckless and anti-social behaviour. No arrests were made and I’m pleased that those who came to the event caused minimal disruption”
“I would also like thank Sgt Ian Hughes and his officers, along with our partners, for what was a successful operation.”
