A MAN who was jailed for attacking a woman has won an appeal over his jail sentence.

Darren Jones, 44, of Quebec Avenue, Southend, caused injuries to the woman’s face and body in August 2014 and was jailed in January 2015 for 26 months at Basildon Crown Court for causing actual bodily harm and common assault.

Jones had been recalled to prison to serve the remainder of a jail term for burglary, so the assault sentence was ordered not to begin until August 2017.

However, Court of Appeal judges found the sentence was wrong and it should have started at the time of the conviction.

He will be released by August.
