A SINGLE pendant has become one of the most expensively sold items of jewellery for an auction house.

An Edwardian diamond emerald pendant made by Carrington and Co has sold for £24,500 at Stacey’s Auctioneers in Rayleigh.

Mark Stacey said: “It was sold to an online bidder against a lot of competition from the room and online, with someone from Sapin also bidding. The auction went really well and there was a lot of jewellery being sold. The pendant was one of the highest selling pieces we have ever had for jewellery - we had put a pre-sale estimate between £6,000 and £10,000.”

Carrington and Co, who made the pendant, were jewellers to Queen Victoria and Edward VII and George V in the past.
