A MOTORIST was robbed of his Ford Fiesta by two man wielding a knife, police say.

Officers say two suspects robbed the man of his car at knifepoint in Dewsgreen, Vange, at around 9.20pm on Friday, May 5.

At around 6.25am yesterday (Saturday, May 6) a man entered the Co-Operative, in Butneys, Basildon, threatened a member of staff, demanded cigarettes and cash and drove off in a Ford Fiesta.

The car was spotted in Southmayne, Pitsea, at around 6.40am by police before the vehicle drove off at speed and collided with a lamppost.

One man ran from the scene and the passenger, a 38-year-old man, from Stanford-le-Hope, was arrested by police.

He was later released under investigation Police arrested a 26-year-old man, from Benfleet, at around 10am today, Sunday, May 7, on suspicion of robbery.

He is in custody assisting police with their enquiries.
