PRETTY bubbles filled the air at a Basildon school as 250 children helped set a new world record.

The students at Janet Duke Infant School joined 35,000 others from 300 schools across the country to take part in the challenge to blow the most bubbles in a minute.

Fiona Walker, the school's secretary, said the record had been officiated by Guinness World Records. She said: "There were lots of screams and giggles coming from the school about 11 o'clock in the morning.

"There was just bubbles everywhere." She said every child taking part had to be logged and counted by Guinness before the record could be officially declared.

The day was organised by bubble-maker Gazillion, which provided each youngster with a bottle of bubbles.
