A police investigation has been launched after a cyclist was hit by a car which then drove off.

The crash happened yesterday afternoon in Michells Avenue on Canvey.

A spokesman for the force said: "Police received reports of a road traffic collision in Mitchells Avenue, Canvey, at around 2.25pm on Saturday, June 16.

"A cyclist was hit by a Mini Cooper after it mounted the pathway on the corner of Small Gains Avenue, knocking the rider to the floor.

"The vehicle then drove off, leaving the victim with bruising and a cut to one of his forearms.
